Estimating Pet Food Expenses

The cost of feeding your pet can be a significant part of your household budget. This calculator helps you estimate the daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly cost based on the food you buy and how much your pet consumes.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Food Bag/Container Size: Enter the weight of the food package you typically buy and select the unit (kg, lb, g, oz).
  2. Cost per Bag/Container: Enter the price you pay for that single package.
  3. Daily Food Consumption: Enter the amount of food your pet eats each day. Select the unit you measure this in (cups, grams, or ounces).
    • **If using Cups:** You MUST also enter the approximate weight (in grams) of one cup of your specific pet food in the "Grams per Cup" field. Different foods have different densities, so weighing a cup is necessary for accuracy.
  4. Click "Estimate Food Costs".

Interpreting Your Results

Calculation Logic

  1. All weights (bag size, daily consumption) are converted to a standard unit (e.g., grams). If cups are used, the "grams per cup" value is used for conversion.
  2. Cost per Gram ($/g) = Cost per Bag / Bag Size (g).
  3. Daily Consumption (g) is determined (either directly entered or calculated from cups).
  4. Cost Per Day = Daily Consumption (g) * Cost per Gram ($/g).
  5. Cost Per Week = Cost Per Day * 7.
  6. Cost Per Month = Cost Per Day * 30.44 (average days in a month).
  7. Cost Per Year = Cost Per Day * 365.25 (average days in a year).
  8. Days Bag Lasts = Bag Size (g) / Daily Consumption (g).
